Year of the Snake Blog Hop

Welcome the snake, a symbol of wisdom and cunning, but also delusion and deception. Read my excerpt below that involves deception and delusion....

This is an excerpt taken from my new adult novel, IMMORTAL ECLIPSE

Sunlight reflects on the stained-glass windows, sending rays of color over the garden. My eyes drink in the lush landscape. That’s when I notice the immobile, tall figure. Dorian is leaning against the mansion, twenty feet away, and staring raptly in my direction. I should be perturbed that he stuck around; instead I feel a surge of amusement.
A dying tree off to the side of the garden stands inside an area of dead grass that appears to be trimmed into a circle. Near the tree, a wooden cross—like a grave marker—has been hammered into the earth. Within the circle are wilting flowers and dead weeds.
Wicked strange.
Snubbing Dorian, I lift the Nikon D7000 and snap pictures of the garden, then the house. Through the viewfinder, I catch a shadowy person on the second-floor. A deep sense of uneasiness drains into my gut. When I lower the camera, and squint up at the window, the person vanishes.
Wait, I could’ve sworn I saw...
I glance over at Dorian, but he’s gone. I raise the camera again, refocus the lenses, and peer through the viewfinder. The figure reappears. It’s a woman, her black hair flying wildly about her pale face. She puts a hand on the foggy glass. Lowering the camera, I look at the window.
There’s no one standing there.
